Why does this website exist, when there are so many pastebin sites out there?

I agree that it doesn't make much sense. What sparked this idea was that many of my friends over in the speedrunning community were still using Pastebin to share notes, faqs, and more. But the site over the years has gained a poor reputation.

Full of bots, spam, viruses, and scams, and a filter which is way too trigger happy and removes pastes with random video game jargon but somehow misses all of the scams. But no pastebin website, for example Rentry, has managed to do exactly what Pastebin did.

Pastebin was a utility that people don't think twice about using, but it did a few things differently to Rentry:

- Short, simple, shareable URLs that fit inside of a Twitch title.

- A slightly-social platform with user profiles where you can see more of a user's pastes, creating a cohesive repository of information.

Rentry has custom URL capabilities, so it technically checks off that first box, but the default behavior was unsatisfactory. Same goes for Github gists.

Anyway, the second point is something that I think is underrated. With this site, I want to pay homage to the Web 2.0 I grew up with.

But this is why the website is invite-only. I want to foster quality content from people I know are humans. This makes moderation much easier, too ;)

Yes, really. That's the killer app - you can switch away from Pastebin with minimal effort.
