Pokemon Stadium 2 - Gym Leader Castle Round 1 - Transfers ONLY from new game (Gold) FAQ:
  2. 2
  3. 3
    Q: What is this run?
  4. 4
A: Basically, only use transfers to beat Round 1 of the Gym Leader Castle in Stadium 2, while starting from a new file of Gold. So you have to play through the game and build a team to the point you then beat the Gym Leader Castle.

  6. 6
The reason it is transfers only, is because otherwise the fastest method would be to to just use Rentals to avoid the team building altogether.

  8. 8
Q: Why are you using Gold as the game to get transfer from?
  9. 9
A: I wanted to do a run with a Johto game, and all of them are quite different!
  10. 10
This is because of access to the legendaries - in Gold you can get Ho-Oh, Silver Lugia and Crystal neither! (at the appropriate Level 50 benchmark)
  11. 11
So Gold bases the team around Ho-Oh, Silver around Lugia, and Crystal uhh... I'll figure that out later. Wanted to do the Ho-Oh run first, so I'm doing Gold

Q: How are you going so fast in Gold??
  14. 14
A: That's the Dodrio Tower, a mode in Stadium 1/2 that lets you play GSC at 3x speed, as long as it's connected with a transfer pak.
  15. 15
  16. 16
Q: Why is the game in monochrome?
  17. 17
A: That's a side effect of using the Dodrio Tower for GSC games. At 2x it's sepia, and at 3x it looks like this. For reference, in RBY it displays at full colour no matter the speed.

Q: Will you do a run of Complete Game with transfers from new game like this?
  20. 20
A: No, because grinding to L100 from Prime Cup would be insanely boring and not fun.

However, I am strongly considering submitting a run for ASM this year, that would do the idea in a way that is engaging. The idea is that I'd do a co-op run with JT, where he plays Stadium 2 aiming to Complete Round 1, and I play RBY/GSC at normal speed to provide the teams for him to use. Would take about 9 hours, and would allow for the time to win Prime Cup.

Q: Will you do other cups/parts of the game like this?
  25. 25
A: Yes, I have done a bunch and plan to do a bunch more Different cups, GLCs, and with different games.
  26. 26
  27. 27
Q: What is the route for the team you want to make?
  28. 28
A: For Gym Leader Castle, the Pokemon you fight are at at least Level 50, and match your highest level. As such, I want to make a few Level 50 Pokemon.

In GSC, the amount of options for high level Pokemon is *extremely low*, and as such, I will only get 3 of them. They will be:
  31. 31

  32. 32
    Feraligatr (Used throughout the game)
  33. 33
Ho-Oh (Caught at Level 40 at Tin Tower)
  34. 34
Snorlax (Caught at Level 50 in Kanto)
  35. 35

  36. 36
Q: Are there any other Pokemon you considered?
  37. 37
A: There's really nothing else available at a high level - the only things close are Level 40s with the Super Rod. But even then, getting a Water Stone in Gold is fucked, so Starmie still isn't very accessible (though it is more accessibly in Crystal, so might be used there). So the only Super Rod catch worth slightly considering is Corsola for Mirror Coat, but it still need a lot of levels so... nah.

  39. 39
Q: What moves will you use on your team?
  40. 40
A: Currently, my idea is going to be this
  41. 41

  42. 42
Ho-Oh: Sacred Fire, Sunny Day, Solarbeam, Earthquake
  43. 43
Feraligatr: Surf, Ice Punch, Return, Strength
  44. 44
Snorlax: Body Slam, Shadow Ball, Curse, Rest
  45. 45

  46. 46
Ideally Ho-Oh wins as many battles as possible, since it has the best offensive stats with okay enough speed, it'd win them the fastest. Snorlax is able to win more by itself, especially if you give it Sleep Talk, but it's *really* slow at winning, so I basically just want it as an insurance to avoid losing. Feraligatr just gets the moves it uses throughout the game, there really isn't anything else that'd be helpful other than Earthquake, an while I'd like to give that to all 3 Pokemon there's sadly only 1 TM of it.

Q: Are glitches allowed in this run?
  49. 49
A: No. If you used glitches, the team building would be trivial as you can do ridiculously powerful glitches very early in all the GB games (ACE, etc) and the run would not be engaging or interesting.

  51. 51
Q: Do you know if this will work?
  52. 52
A: Nope, just mapped out a general idea purely based on theory, I've done no testing at all. Given the nature of this run using multiple games and a transfer pak, the way to test this is with a run
